WHAT THE HECK???

It cost me $54 to fill up my Blazer yesterday. I wanted to make a protest right there, but I was just glad gas was only $2.99 a gallon. I thought it'd be interesting to see what prices you guys are paying out there. Leave it in the comment section at the bottom of today's post.

And now for something completely different and light hearted for this Friday...

Speaking of the price of gas...(sorry--Mom, stop reading HERE) now that I am sharing an office with our Senior Minister (or Director of Ministries), I'm finding that there are all kinds of cramps in my style. This is especially true in the area of freely being able to expel. Yeah. That's another price of gas I'm dealing with. The freedom to just tear it up in the privacy of one's own office is extremely valuable.

There was a precious woman who USED to work at Otter Creek (come to think of it...maybe this is why she's no longer here). It was like this sick timing. EVERY single time I passed gas in my office somehow she was near and needed to speak to me about something in my office. I remember hearing that knock and thinking to myself...good grief, it never fails. In she'd come and try her best to talk to me through the cloud of green smoke. She'd always have this sort of squinty expression like she was wishing for an oxygen mask or something. Bless. She MUST have thought I was the most vile individual on earth. You might too, now that you've read this. But, seriously, it NEVER failed. It became a joke.

Now, I am sharing an office with Doug Sanders. While I value my freedom of "expression" I also value my roommate. It's hard...all these gas wars. Yes, very hard. We're all paying the price...one way or another.

Tonight's movie night...Charlotte's Web and Newsies! Mom's coming over to join in the fun. Sheryl's getting a much deserved girls' night out. This weekend is also the Greek Festival at the Greek Orthodox Church on Franklin Rd. It is NOT TO BE MISSED. If you're in or near Nashville, go check it out.

Have a blessed weekend.

I hope you always said "Excuse me" as you are teaching Maddie and Ella to do. This is definitely something you learned from your dad who was often caught in his office doing the same thing by teachers who knocked with an important question.

In central California, you can't find gas for under $3.00. I filled up for $2.99 earlier this week but I fear those days are over.

Did I just write that? Sheesh.

Last I paid was $2.63, but that was almost two weeks ago now. Ah, the beauty of a 4 mile commute. I think my regular gas station is up to $2.99 now.

Enjoy Newsies - I love it! Several of the songs were theme/solo songs my year in Freshman Follies.....

Saw it for $2.89 this morning.

I heard a doctor say the average healthy man AND woman need to pass gas an average of 14 times a day. Stephanie thinks I may be a little too healthy.

$2.78 at the new Wal-Mart superstore on I-20 in Abilene (WITH a Wal-Mart gift card, of course)!! The terribly sad part is how excited I am to pay $2.78/gallon for gasoline.

We're only at 2.69 in Mobile and let me just say thank you. You sir, are a man after my own heart! That is all, thank you.

Our petrol ('gas' is too crass for the English to say out loud) has been between $6 and $7 per gallon for the past five years, until a couple of months ago. Now it hovers between $8 and $10 per gallon. We thought paying the equivalent of $60-$70 to fill up the tank was tough but now that seems like peanuts (another form of fuel and energy ... why couldn't someone come up with a way to bottle that when it's being expelled by flagellant pastors?).

But not to worry -- people are still driving and clogging up the motorways. And the penchant for American gas guzzlers gets ever more popular.

At least when we go on holiday in the US, we get a HUGE break at the petrol pumps ... it's so CHEAP!

Sorry, but the rest of the world has a difficult time relating.

I paid 2.95 last night. Its steadily on its way back down though. We should get back to around 2 dollars a gallon if oil prices stay where they are. It was higher than 64 dollars a barrel before Katrina hit.. it will just take time.

I love the newsies... wonderful movie.

In France they long ago found a way to make gas prices LOOK cheaper... they charge by the liter. East of San Fran in Antioch, I saw 3 stations today: $3.11, $2.95, $2.94... but I have been riding my bike. :-)

One more thing... the commercial says Beano even works on husbands.

If you think you pay a lot for gas, just ask yourself how much you pay per GALLON for bottled water. It's FREE out of the tap. Why complain about $3/gallon for gas when we pay $8/gallon for bottled water!!!!

Now to more important matters: When anyone in our household "toots", the offender has to call it by announcing "Toot, toot in the boot - ME!" (Of course, this is ONLY when in the privacy of our own home!)

We're paying $2.92 right now. It's been as high as $3.49 here, but I think we're past the price-gouging times...for now...

And now, more embarassing gas stories from the Land of Lincoln! --

My sweet little daughter - beautiful, doe-eyed "Ya-Ya" - used to like to play in our backyard en le buffe. One bright Spring day, while she and my son were playing in the cool green grass, we saw her squatting and immediately wondered if she was planning to do something not-so-nice on our well-coifed lawn. Then, our sweet baby girl produced a sound very much like a bullhorn with her derriere, turned to us, smiled sweetly and said in her best two-year-old lisp:

Just toots!"

I paid $2.87 the other day in Austin to fill up our Van. It cost $75 and the pump shut off automatically at that point. It was as if they said, "OK, enough gas for you!" But, with a family of 6, we're stuck with using big gas guzzlers. :-(

My grandfather used to say "Pardon, but there's more room out here than there is in mein me!" as he let on fly! Always made me laugh and got my Nana dander up! I can here her yelling "Caskey! My word excuse yourself to the restroom!" He'd just smile! :)

2.89 in Waco today...So how much do we pay for a gallon of milk or ...Starbucks coffee? Yeah, I know ..it still hurts to spen $50 filling up!

$3.29 is the cheapest I've seen in Troy, NY. Just north a bit it was $3.81 the other day. I think $3.39 is the average. Ouch.

BST - Just ride your bike to work...that's what my Brandon does...no "petrol" expense.

And thanks for sharing about your intestinal distress. I feel like I really know you now.

It cost me $75 just to go to the ranches on Tuesday. If my butt weren't so bony I might consider getting a horse.

BTW, I once had a horse that reminds me of the rest of your post.

Brandon,

I don't wait til the "arrow" arrives close to the "E" or even past the "1/2 gallon remaining marker". I go to the gas station when the arrow is close to the "1/2 gallon marker" this way the fill-up from 1/2 to F is a lot less than E to F! I feel better if I pay in portions instead of in full.

Plus, use your bike (if you have) more often, walk to the restaurant under the beautiful starry skies (if it is close), carpool more often if you're going out with friends (share the gas $) and most of all, trust God that He will keep your wallet fat!

BST- I am hurting. YOur timing, with both the blog and the gas is impeccable. I am trying to finish a sermon on "end Times" out of Mark 13, racking my brain, and read this. Beautiful. I sure miss you.

I live with 3 men. Try to imagine the lack of discretion........Someday they are going to come home and find a note on our fridge with "1-800-Embassy-Suites --- Don't call me unless you're dying" on it.
